EVENTS
On Monday, the 30th of April 2012, a well-known annual event SAMAs (South African Music Awards) was held at Sun City in Johannesburg. The event’s main sponsor is MTN.That is why it is called MTN SAMAs.
I am sure everybody in or from a public relations world will agree with me when I say organisations need to adapt or otherwise they will perish. Looking at the SAMAs event I could spot so many things which concluded that the organisation was not traditional marketing communication but integrated marketing communication.
Take a look at this (short summary of the SAMAs event planning)
Technological department avoided piracy
· Lights looking at the lights they were not there to provide the light or for decoration but for avoiding piracy (why am I saying that? Who would buy or record a video which has too much lights busy spinning around the stage? I mean it will be very blur and disturbing).
· Busy background during the performances by artist.
· Live cameras where not only focusing on artist ‘s performances but also the audiences.
· Little advertisements in between the live event show(e.g. nominees and those small talks about best nominated artists).

Entertainment department short highlights
The opening song by all the guest presenters, it was beautiful and so creative different from the previous SAMAs.
· Solly Mahlangu said "To all media houses, if it you do not play it they won’t hear it, if you don't show it they won’t see it ... thank you" this showed the importance of media.
· Zahara and MICASA collecting the awards...
From a public relations point of view, it is always our duty to get feedback from our target audiences. Although they are two kinds of feedback namely:
· Symmetrical feedback and
· Asymmetrical feedback
In symmetrical feedback, we get feedback immediately while in asymmetrical we get a delayed feedback.
In today’s issue, I would like us to give feedback about the event. How was their planning? Voice out your feelings.
I must say that I enjoyed watching this year's SAMAs because it was not busy like last year. What I noticed is how the celebrities were dressed and thier presentations for nominees and winners, my point being that the event waw well-orgarnised and not disrurbing.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to hear that"well-orgarnised" thank you for voicing out your point
DeleteI missed the samas this year, for it really feels like we are loosing our touch in that department, the samas have no value anymore.
ReplyDeleteOK, so motso, what you are saying is you did not whatched the SAMAs because you felt like its a waste of time?if so now i am asking my self if music plays a role in your life? because it it does then the SAMAs are one thing to watch
DeleteI believe everything was planned well,it was a great event but the fact that same people kept winning many awards.some like Zahara dirseved them bt they should have given some other artists chances.
ReplyDeleteIt is not about "giving other artist chances" it was south africans votes
DeleteI didn't watch the SAMA's but not because I don't like them i just don't have television thank you for the update
DeleteU Welcome Phemelo, hope you got an idead of how they were
Deletethe SAMA's yes improved from last year in such a big way because i believe a company they saw tahat they target audience was not happy so they acted quikly to show effectiveness of their organisation
ReplyDeleteQUESTION IS WHAT EXACTLY HAVE THEY IMPROVE?WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE PREVIOUS EVENTS AND WHAT MADE THEM DIFERENT FROM THIS YEAR'S
DeleteI would say that the SAMA's this year were well organised compared to last years and this shows how important is imc in an organisation because they managered to get feedback from the stakeholders that were not happy with last years SAMA's and I must say that the feedback really helped.

ReplyDeleteyou are welcome but what i wanted to know is for you to give me feed back on the SAMAs
DeleteI like your blog, it made me realise things i did not even pay attention to
ReplyDeleteyou are welcome but what i wanted to know is for you to give me feed back on the SAMAs
DeleteWell SAMA's these year showed an improvement in everything.
ReplyDeletei wanted to know is for you to give me feed back on the SAMAs ... when yu are saying in everything what exactly do you mean?
Deleteeverything was planned well
ReplyDeletewhen you are saying in everything what exactly do you mean? i need you to elaborate more
DeleteThe SAMA's this year were boring for me; I mean the performances were not as good as that compared to the past years. The only thing that was done right was making sure that they went back to Sun City and not repeat the last year Monty casino which was not a very good venue to host the SAMA;s
ReplyDeleteok, so what you saying is the place was on point but every thing was not well organised?
DeleteAs usual, the SAMAs were well coordinated, I'm just concerned about the behaviour of Unathi, one of the hosts for the night! she said a very nasty word which I can't mention - I was disappointed! Kids were watching man!
ReplyDeleteoh? ok so the strong language... thank ypu for pointing out that issue
DeleteI say, the SAMA’s were well planned. Looking at this in a Public Relations point of view, this event was well marketed and they were back to the original place Sun City so I say big up to the organisers.
ReplyDeleteso what you are saying is so future events we must go for suncity venue?
DeleteI would not lie to you guys, i don't have a clue about the setting and what not, but what flabagast me the most is the issue of Zahara resently she was said to be broke how about they took those awards and sell them or do anything that will bring this love bird her money this is not AYOBA
ReplyDeleteThe situation that Zahara is currently in has got nothing to do with the MTN SAMAs, it is her and her comany record 's problem to solve
DeleteThe event was amazing,it was not so different from the other SAMA awards though, however it was good to see new people getting awards, because usually it is always the same people that win there.
ReplyDeleteso what you are saying is, there was no change except the fact that new people in music industry also won?
DeleteAll organisations that are operating at this era need to use the IMC in order to keep the company going. The event was actually well planned and included all relevent IMC elements.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION IS WHAT EXACTLY HAVE THEY IMPROVE?WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE PREVIOUS EVENTS AND WHAT MADE THEM DIFERENT FROM THIS YEAR'S
DeleteIt was a very successful event I must say. So the orgarnisers really did their work and it paid off.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION IS WHAT EXACTLY HAVE THEY IMPROVE?WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE PREVIOUS EVENTS AND WHAT MADE THEM DIFERENT FROM THIS YEAR'S
DeleteTo be really honest this years SAMAs were very different compared to the others, i meam there was an improvement in terms of the lighting and how they set the stage, it looked queit awsome, but in terms of the show i was bored. The MCs just did not do it for me the perfomances too were just not on point.
ReplyDeletethank you for your opinion ,we will make sure that next time we take that into consideration
